MANDAUE CITY: My Kingdom

The first bridge built to connect Mactan to Cebu
Travelers to Cebu City might not notice Mandaue . I could imagine how they pass the bridge that connects Mactan to Cebu without noticing my hometown. Mandaue City is a facinating city and unstable one.

My hometown got its name from a  thick vine called Mantawi where it grows abundantly around the city.

Mandaue City is one of the highly urbanized cities in the Visayan Region. It is called as the Industrialized  zone in Cebu because a lot of Manufacturing companies are located here.

The Treasure of Mandaue

Mandaue is really a huge city. What you'll mostly see here are manufacturing firms. But there are also visible landmarks that could amaze you with its story.

 National Shrine of St. Joseph

National Shrine of St. Joseph in the making. (1601)
The church was built by the Jesuits in 1601. In the early year of Spanish Colonization, this was used by the missionaries and Catholic Priests when they wanted to spread the religion in the island. The church itself experienced a lot of changes and additions since from the start. As of 1892, it bears the name National Shrine of St. Joseph after being recognize by Pope Leo 13th.

 Bantayan sa Hari

Under the Mandaue-Mactan bridge, you will find the Bantayan sa Hari (Moro watch-tower). Though surrounded by gasoline depots, this historic monument stands still and serves as a reminder of the days of the Spanish rule. This is built in 19th century.

The purpose of this tower was to warn the people of the town that raiders are coming. At present time, the tower still offers a very nice view over the horizon which is definitely worth seeing.

Rizal-Bonifacio Memorial Stage and Library

This memorial stage serves as a monument to the spirit of the citizens of Mandaue. This was built after the Second World War. It also has this distinct cone-shaped structure on top of the building .

At the back of this is the City's post office where you can frequently go and send postcards. The stage is also used for different sorts of activities.

Luis Cabrera ancestral house

Luis Cabrera Ancestral house
The Luis Cabreara ancestral house existed before Luis Cabrera and Alberta Sanches got married in 1909. The upper part of the Luis Cabrera ancestral house is built in typical Filipino fashion. During the Second World War, this house was a headquarter for Japanese and was later home for many priests on missionary work.

We can also enjoy the different delicacies found in Mandaue and what Mandauehanons are proud of like Masi, puto, and palitaw. Mandaue is the home of the best bibingka in the province. Well infact, Mandaue attempted to join the Guinness Book of World records where they baked the biggest bibingka using the best bibingka recipe.

Mandaue has slowly developed to be one of the best places in town where we can hang out and take a rest with friends, family, relatives, and even with someone special.

For me, my hometown is one of the best City in the province. It might not be familiar to you but try to come and Explore my Kingdom, Mandaue, and you'll surely treasure the memories with your friends, even with your family and for sure you'll really love my place.
